The U.S.A.—No Longer Free

Sad, but true. The face of this country has changed—for the worse.

This is not news, of course. But the stealth of the change has been overt, unannounced, but steady, nonetheless.

Just ask yourself if you feel as free as you did twenty years ago. Of course, if you live in a remote location and have no cell phone or Internet connection; if you don’t fly or have much contact with the world, you may feel unaffected.

But for those of us who are not so fortunate and who live amid today’s turmoil, rampant crime, road rage, mounting encroachment of governmental authority, our growing police state, etc., we most certainly feel it.

However, to me, the most noticeable sign of oppression is the fact that free speech (supposed to have been guaranteed by our Constitution) has been abolished, squelched, quashed, and outlawed by our legislating judicial system.

Thanks to the judicial system’s illegally legislating from the bench and effectively encroaching upon the legislative branch of our government, we are limping along with a convoluted set of half-laws, discriminately applied.

This “reaching over,” as it were into the jurisdiction of another government branch was never meant to be, as it completely negates the system of checks and balances that our government was set up to prevent.

We used to be able to call a spade a spade and not a convex, semi-triangularly shaped garden tool with a handle designed to make gardening a little easier. But today we have to “soften” our terminology, lest, God forbid, it may offend one person. Gimme a break!

When you’ve lived as long as I have, you have to expect to be offended from time to time. That’s life . . . get over it!

Some people are offended by the thought of working . . . so the government provides for them, able bodied or not! Up until recently, some people were offended by not being able to smoke in certain public places, and so many concessions were made for them. Thank God, someone finally has awakened to the health hazard they create with their nasty habit, not only for themselves, but for others.

Some people are offended because others do not accept their “alternative” lifestyles and call it sin. Too bad, it’s their choice. It was not forced upon them!

Some people are offended because of the many references to God extant in our Pledge of Allegiance, national cemeteries, national monuments, government buildings, et al. Duh! These are but a few of the natural results that followed the principles upon which this nation was founded.

This country has prospered because of that fact, not despite it! Anyone with an ounce of gray matter must conclude that, as soon as the powers that be began to remove God from the public classroom (1962, I believe it was), the decline in both the educational system and the safety within that system has been blatant.

I just thank the Lord that all my children are out of it, and I have to trust that my grandchildren will make it through physically unscathed. Sadly, there is no way they can avoid the mental muck through which they must wallow to the end.

And that reminds me. I caught a program last week on public television that talked about the theory of evolution as a fact. (This is some of the muck I refer to above.) Evolution remains a theory. Even Darwin eventually recanted and recognized that it was a fallacy.

But this program had the audacity to say that, using D.N.A., they are going to attempt to bring Neanderthal man back to life! What gall to try to elevate themselves to the same playing field with our Creator!

This may or may not be the end of this article, because there is a whole lot left to say, but it’s already long enough for this spot.

A senior US senator on Sunday urged an independent investigation of Scotland’s decision to free the Lockerbie bomber, expressing concern that British interest in Libyan oil may have played a role. Senator Joe Lieberman pointed to “shocking” suggestions by Libyan leader Moamer Kadahfi, his son Saif and the head of the British Libyan Business council that the release was mixed with Britain’s interest in exploring oil in Libya. “I don’t want to believe that they are true, but they are hanging so heavily in the air that I hope that our friends in Britain will convene an independent investigation of this action by the Scottish justice minister to release a mass murderer,” he said on CNN. Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi’s return to a hero’s welcome in Tripoli Thursday set off an outpouring of anger here over the Scottish government’s decision to release him on compassionate grounds. Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said he made the decision on his own after doctors concluded that Megrahi, who suffers from prostate cancer, had just a few months to live. But adding fuel to the outrage was a claim by Seif al-Islam, Khadafi’s son, that the issue of Megrahi’s fate “was always on the negotiating table” in talks with Britain over Libya’s huge reserves of oil and gas. Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat, said Lieberman’s questioning of Scottish motives in releasing Megrahi “raises a very valid point.” “I think we need to know what this oil deal was all about and whether there was …
